Significance of Extensor Plantar Responses in Muscular Dystrophy.

چکیده
The absence of primary disease of the central nervous system is usually regarded as characteristic of the muscular dystrophies. However, there have been occasional reports of the presence of signs, generally accepted as indicating organic disease of the central nervous system, in otherwise typical examples of muscular dystrophy (Bell, 1943); these signs include extensor plantar responses which have been recorded on several occasions (Kollarits, 1906; Crouzon, 1911; Leri, Girot and Basch, 1923: Sjovall, 1936; Levison, 1951: Hassan and Mostafa, 1961). A report is here given of a family in which each of four male siblings showed evidence of classical pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy and also bilateral extensor plantar responses; the significance of this association is discussed.

The effect of knee extensor and ankle plantar flexor fatigue on dynamic balance in active elderly males
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of knee extensor and ankle plantar flexor fatigue on dynamic balance among active elderly males. Fifteen healthy individuals having age of 72±6.57 years, height of 168.4±4.8 cm and weight of 70.5±7.4 kg without history of injuries at lower extremity, participated in this study. Knee extensor and ankle plantar flexor muscles fatigued with f...
متن کاملDystrophin Deficiency Compromises Force Production of the Extensor Carpi Ulnaris Muscle in the Canine Model of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Loss of muscle force is a salient feature of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a fatal disease caused by dystrophin deficiency. Assessment of force production from a single intact muscle has been considered as the gold standard for studying physiological consequences in murine models of DMD. Unfortunately, equivalent assays have not been established in dystrophic dogs. To fill the gap, we deve...
متن کاملAssociation of Limb-Girdle muscular dystrophy with multiple sclerosis: A case report
Background: The association of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) with other neurological disorders is uncommon. Case presentation: We report a 25-year-old female with LGMD who suffered from slowly progressive proximal muscular weakness and atrophy since she was 12 years of age. The patient recently presented with acute loss of left side visual acuity. After evaluation, findings were sugges...
متن کاملP164: Adeno-Associated Viral Vectors in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an inherited X-link disease. The incidence of this muscle-wasting disease is 1:5000 male live births. Mutation in the gene coding for dystrophin is the main cause of BMD. Most cases of this disease succumb to respiratory and cardiac failure in 3rd to 4th decades. The slow progression of BMD and recent achievement of gene therapies make it as an appropriate c...
متن کاملDetection of the Duplication in Exons 56-63 of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Patients with MLPA
Background Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a deadly X-linked recessive disorder. This genetic disorder affects 1 among 3,500-5,000 males in the world. The majority of the patients are male, due to the type of inheritance. It affects most of the skeletal, the respiratory, and cardiac muscles, causing these vital organs to contract and eventually mortality.<br...
